Scat Snack Recipe

Scat isn’t at all tasty. In fact, scat is an animal’s feces…or pooh. And while scat can tell us if an animal is a carnivore (which means a meat eater), a herbivore (a vegetarian), or an omnivore (an animal–including humans–that eats both meat and veggies), I would never want to eat another animal’s…yeah. Ick.

Scat Snacks, however, can be delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups of whatever leftover cereal you have in the cupboard. We like to collect the left-over odds and ends in the boxes until we have enough.
  • A big bag of miniature marshmallows or about 60 big marshmallows.
  • 2 tablespoons (also known as TBSP) of butter or margarine.

Directions (with a parent’s help):

  • Spray a 9×13 or a 10×15 cake pan with cooking spray so the scat snacks don’t stick. You can also butter the bottom and sides of the pan.
  • Next, melt the butter in a big pot over medium heat and add the marshmallows. Don’t forget to stir often as marshmallows have a ton of sugar and sugar burns easily.
  • After all the marshmallows are melted and bubbly, take it off the heat.
  • Add the cereal and mix together really well.
  • When all the cereal is coated with marshmallow, scoop the cereal mixture into the cake pan.
  • Wet your hands with water or coat them in butter so the marshmallow doesn’t stick to you, and press the mixture into the bottom of the pan.
  • Let it cool, cut, and enjoy.

*My favorite cereals are the mostly unsugared kind. Otherwise the scat snacks get too sweet. Here is a list of my favorites:

  • Multigrain Cheerios
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  • Kix
  • Chex or Crispix
  • Rice Krispies
